Default Differential pin

On a 01 dakota 2wd when pulling the rear main axels to get to seals how do you rotate the larger gear in the differential to get that 8mm an middle pin out.Or can i drop that rod down enough to get C clamps off?
The big main gear doesnt want to turn. The left an right do fine on turn.Large one feels locked .
Also what are the ft lbs for the 8mm screw in pin an the outter diff bolts ?
can u use brake cleanercleanere inside as u clean it up Any info is appreciated.

Since this is the 1st Gen forum, I won't know for SURE - but you DO have the driveshaft disconnected or at least the transmission in neutral if a manual (out of park if an automatic), right?

Should be able to twist one of the two wheels to get that to precess to where you can remove the fastening bolt.

With the driveshaft disconnected (or transmission in neutral), you should also be able to move the ring gear there (that big one).

As to torque back in - again, you need to check the factory service manual for your 2001, but for 1988, it was 90 lb/in (or 10 nm).

For the cross shaft, it ain't real tight..... 90 inch pounds sounds reasonable. Some blue lok-tite is a VERY good idea as well. You do NOT want that bolt coming out.

90 INCH pounds.

Divide by 12 to get foot pounds. Or, you know, use an inch pound wrench like you should.

get the service manual before you screw up something
take pin bolt out and push axle shafts in and the c washers can be removed. behind the seal is a bearing and it might be good to change while your there unless yours is still good
