Default Headlights

The headlights on my 95 are pitiful. I just put in new halogen headlight assemblies and still can hardly see a thing.

Anyone have recommendations for some aftermarket headlights that put out light like a newer car?

I may just be getting old (70), but I think there must be stronger headlights out there.

Step 0 - CLEAN THE HEADLAMP ASSEMBLIES.

They're probably cloudy and foggy, and possibly yellowed.

Step 1 - Pick a GOOD bulb. Read Ryan's comments at Ryan's guide to: Halogen bulbs - HiDplanet : The Official Automotive Lighting Forum

Step 2 - Add a good relay harness. I like the Putco, but you'll need to add a fuse to it. AmazonSmile: Putco 239007HW - 9007 100W Premium Heavy Duty Headlight Harness and Relay , BLACK : Automotive

Even if you want to change, do 0 and 2 as an ABSOLUTE MINIMUM.

Your next step for good light, where it does good, is to go to a HID projector conversion; do step 0 first though.

If you've ever had a cataract removed, remember, your truck has the effect of cataracts on its lenses.

The headlight assemblies are brand new and clear as a bell.

I put in the Putco harness/relays tonight and the low beams are much improved. I don’t have high beams now though. If I switch back to the old harness both low and high beams work.

The Putco packaging says it’s not designed for vehicles with daytime running lights. I have DRLs. Can I disable the DRLs and get my high beams back, or is this harness not going to work?

The packaging also says “it is available for those using H4 and D4 type bulbs”. I currently have HB1 bulbs.

HB1? Those are 9004 replacements; you'll need to repin to match those. The harness is for 9007s, not HB1s or 9004s.

The H4/D4 bulbs don't have the same base or contacts; don't worry, if it plugged in, it's just got a few wires crossed.

See for instance

It should still be OK; the DRL module doesn't PWM the lights like later ones do.

You probably get tired of hearing this Ralph, but, once again you are right. I checked the wiring diagram, connector pin out diagram, re pinned the harness connector, and every is working great.

The two people that everyone hates to see the most are their doctor and their mechanic. The two people that make everyone the happiest are their doctor and their mechanic.

I don't know.... My doctor is always telling me things I don't want to hear. "Change your diet." "Get more exercise." "Quite smoking.", etc. Sure, some of it is likely a good idea..... but, I LIKE my life. And I am NOT going to give up bacon.
