Default I feel and hear a soft clicking sound

Most obvious driving slowly about 10 MPH in first gear (I have a 5 speed) in a '96 4 X 4 3.9L Dodge Dakota Sport, I can not only hear the slow ticking sound but I can "feel" it when my hand is on the gear shift. It's been doing this for months now, and nothing has failed yet. Hard to tell where the noise originates from because it's barely noticeable to me and maybe only because we have owned the vehicle since it was special-ordered new. Ring a bell to anyone else out their with a similar vehicle? Thank you.

Update: I just noticed the clicking noise is much more obvious when coasting in neutral (or with the clutch disengaged) while slowing from 15 MPH to zero.

Is the clicking in even time intervals or does the frequency speed up or slow down as a function of how fast you're traveling?

Agree with Hey You. U joints are a good place to start. Mine went out recently. Noise ceased once I got some speed going. The initial load put more pressure on the driveshaft and exasperated the noise. And yes, it’s possible to feel a vibration too.

How many miles on your truck and have you ever changed out the u-joints? They are likely non-greasable. But check. Do they have grease fittings on them? If so, have you ever greased them?

my "soft clicking" turned out to be the belt.
It sounded something like how you described your problem, so maybe swap that out for a nice fresh one?
