Default 96 3.9 SLT 2WD Front Brakes ~

96 3.9 SLT 2WD Front Brakes ~ 84k

Previously Truck sat for 5 years.

I've replaced 3 calipers, Hoses, Pads. in the last three years. (front Brake lock up)

currently my rotors are off being turned. as I could feel the warp at the end of stopping.

Problem :

On they way home the other night I got a little grind or "grumble" out of the Left front Driver side when stopping. Not always.

I don't see anything damaged or worn upon inspection during "tear down"

Questions:

What is often overlooked from keeping these brakes to maintain their integrity?

Is there a direct replacement caliper that is better

Thanks

Low

Really not a lot to screw up on calipers..... if they don't leak, or bind internally, it's all good.

Be sure to use some appropriate grease on the sliding surfaces where the caliper mounts. (either the guide pins, or whathaveyou.) I like to use the spray on 'anti-squeal' on the backing plates of the pads as well. Put a couple light coats of the stuff on the pads, and let it get good and tacky before installation. Wouldn't hurt to thoroughly flush the fluid either....

Thanks-

Can a bad ABS relay cause grief intermittently? or would the light always come on?

I would think that would set a code, and turn on the light.

Have you eliminated other things such as wheel bearings? And the threads in the knuckle for the caliper pins aren't stripped?

Every thing back together. Initial test drive was fine. Glued the pads to the pistons and stripped down and lubbed up brake pins and where the pads glide. The rotors were toast. (Bought new ones) So I'm thinking warped rotors and a poorly lubed brake pin played hell on the geometry lending to an easy bind?

Thanks!
