Just scored a Shelby
I've had 2 BMW's. The first was an '87 325i rag top. I loved driving both cars but the other BMW drivers would cut me off and act like jerks. One blocked me and got out and started screaming at me. That look on his face when I climbed out in bib overalls, a rather bushy grey beard and a beat up denim coat was priceless. I'm 6 fot and I was also about 50 pounds heavier at the time.
I think of myself as a fairly safe driver, but when I get behind the wheel of a BMW, I don't understand the necessity of a turn signal. Mine's a Z3 3.0 and the way the power comes on in a BMW straight-6 is awesome. It's not the most powerful car in the world especially by modern standards, but the torque is instant and so smooth. Even the 2.5 in the SUV (X3) seems way more powerful than it is because of how refined and well-tuned it is, plus the 6-speed gearbox is very well-matched.
Anyway, me bringing up BMWs in a Shelby Dakota thread...how dare I.
BMW drivers...the stereotypes have a pretty strong basis in reality.

My last BMW was a '97 528i. The 5 speed manual had an Alpine first gear so you didn't get much speed. Once going though, you really got some speed in each gear. I traded it to a kid for his Cadillac Escalade. He said he was going to put a blower on it. I asked him why as it never had a shortage of power. I was racing a friend in a Porsche 928. I was ahead all the way to my speed limiter. That's when the Porsche passed me. His limiter was at 155 or so. Mine was around 148. This was on a track of course as I would NEVER speed on public streets.

Hey Seth, how'd you find a workaround for the fuel pump assembly? Mechanic is telling me there's not a replacement for this, mine is toast & the mechanic is giving up so any help is really appreciated! -Edmond in SoCal.
First off, I have zero experience with the Shelby's, but that being said, It appears to me that the fuel pump is available from rockauto.com
Thanks brotha, the problem is the whole fuel assembly, unless someone happens to know if that assembly is the same one used in the 91 or later version, that would be helpful. Otherwise looks like options are externally mounted fuel pump assembly, or luck out on finding functional one from another 89 dakota shelby. Appreciate the input though, and open to any other ideas.
Why does it have to have the whole assembly vs just the pump? Also, are you sure the Shelby used anything special with the tank, fuel sending unit, or pump? Finding a junked Shelby will be tough to say the least.
