Having problem with headlights, replaced switch but still no lights . Thought I would cut to the chase before I get lost in all the tech on the internet ( TOO MUCH) .So what wisdom can you share with me my Dakota family. I guess you need to know it's a First Gen 1987 Dakota. Thank you, looking forward to hearing from you.

 

Have you checked fuses? If so, and assuming they are good, have you checked for voltage at the headlight bulb? Have you checked to see if it is out on both high beam and low beam?

 

MY GOD!!!!! DON'T run around BARE! Put some pants on at least!


Okay, now that you've been introduced to my um...odd...sense of humor. Unplug one of your headlights. Get a known good headlight. Plug it into the new bulb. If that works, then you've just got a couple of burned out bulbs. It's rare they go out together, but it does happen when they are old and a slight power surge just hits them right. I've seen people drive around with one burned out and later the other one goes. If the new one works, just get a pair of new bulbs and you're done.
