Synthetic oil
Bought 2004 dodge Dakota 3.7 engine ran good until I changed the in it to my trusted mobil1 full synthetic oil² after a trip of about 2hrs i was almost home and oil light came on and I drove another 15 miles to my house. When I pulled in my driveway it started knocking and when I had it checked the heads on one side was damaged bad and had to be replaced. Mechanic told me the motor was sludged up so bad that the synthetic oil had broke it loose and stopped up oil flow to the damaged head.
How many miles are on the truck?
Sounds like previous owner neglected the maintenance on the truck
FWIW, it it was mine, I would either find another motor, or completely disassemble that one, checking for damage from oil starvation...... If all looks good, have it cleaned, reassemble with new bearings, rings, oil pump, timing chain, etc.

Synthetic oil is the best oil for newer cars and trucks but some engines like the dodge 3.7 that has had regular oil run in it for 100k miles will sluge up and if you put Synthetic oil will start to break up the sluge and could stop up oil passages and cause problem.
