Default Front shocks removal.

Trying to change front shocks on my old 89 Dakota LE 2wd.. 5pd 150k. Naturally the top nuts are rusted tight. Tried the vise grip thing... no luck. Was planning on renting an oxy acetylene torch from Harbor Freight and cutting.
Question.. just cut the top nut off... or cut the shaft? (I'm a retired RR Carman so have done a ton of burning back in the day) Mostly natural gas but some oxy as well.
thanks.......

When I did my exhaust manifolds I heated the bolt heads and nuts up cherry red with oxy/acet then let the red go away and they broke loose easy. It is the bolt or nut heating up so much faster than the metal around it that does the trick. Propane won't work it heats too slowly. Everything will get hot and expand/contract at the same rate.
