Default 360 swap.

I did the 360 swap on my Dakota. Doing transmission work, etc this week. While in the process I was going to attempt to hook up my stock tach and speedometer since it's been without for a bit. I know it's possible to get the stock tach to wire up, but can the stock speedo be wired to work properly? Any help is appreciated. [sm=smiley20.gif]

You can wire anything if you know what wires to hook it to. What year is your truck? Some of them a cable controlled instead of electric. Reguardless, it reads off the tail shart of the tranny.

It's a 1995. I was told if I looked at the wiring schematics I could figure it out, but I've been too busy lately to go search them out.

also drive shaft? ive got a 99 r/t motor and a 46re trans waiting on taxes to get back to finish the rebuild. got to find a floor shifter also. mine is a standard at the moment. wanted to keep it standard but ran across the 46 for free.

Why not plug the hole and change the column and gain some room on the floor.Or you could go to a cable shifter

Yes, it's an extended cab. I used an LA 360 out of a Mid-70's Ram. I am using the stock A500. Everything is pretty much stock on my drivetrain, except I am in the middle of rebuilding the transmission and using a 3000 stall converter and trying to find me an R/T rear end.

You guys can use whatever tranny you want. You just have to find the driveshaft to fit. If need be you can swap the tail shafts and housings from a 500 to a 518 and vise versa to allow you to run the driveshaft you have now if need be, but it is complicated if you are not familiar with auto trannys. I believe the 46re is the heavier one, but I dont recall those numbers. Im familiar with A500 and A518.

You should be able to use the stock crossmember and mount reguardless of either tranny.

And I too would plug the hole and get a column shift.

yes, the '95's are electronic, as I believe all of '94-'96's are of that body style.

the 46re came out of a 99 1500 and the 360 came out of a 99 r/t dakota. dont want to hassle with changing the column and all the linkages. at the moment i am looking for a cable shifter. Found another post somewhere that said would just have to mod the bracket a little. Really dont have the need for extra floor space, i put 99 durango factory leather buckets and console in a couple of months ago.
