Perfromance enhancements
Just curious if anyone would share some performance enhancing tips. Advance timing, cut a hole in air filter, etc (you know, the inexpensive kind).
I'd like to get a couple of cheap horses out of my dakota. I may even spend a hundred or two for a proven technique / part.
Thanks in advance!

Definitly gotta get a fart can exhaust, that and some stickers, oh yea, and an underbody kit! Those things together will net you about 30HP.
No, but seriously, cold air intake.

I don't have any add-ons on my Dakota, so I can't personally recommend anything.
I've heard K&N CAI's are good. You could also visit the Gen 2 board and see what they recommend. (We got the same 3.9L as they do).

i would go with an exhaust and intake. its amazing how much power you can get by just doing that.

Remove the weather plate in front of the air cleaner duct - passenger side behind the grille.
Replace your airfilter with a drop in K&N. Voila - instant CAI and more flow.
Remove the IAT sensor from the intake manifold, drill a hole in the square inlet to your aircleaner housing and install it there. It will read cooler temps and richen the mixture a tad.
Remove the CPS sensor on the back of the engine and slot the bracket. You can now move the sensor forward and back a smidge, which will physically advance or retard the timing.
Got a dremel or angle grinder? Port/polish your TB. Grind off all the ridges and open the bores so they are straight. Good for a big increase in airflow.
Those are the cheap ones.
Get a junkyard dual fan out of a V6 Contour/Mystique or a dual fan from a 98-03 Concorde/Intrepid. These fans are thin enough to fit in a GenII, yet provide plenty of cooling. Fab up a cheap fan control, maybe spend $100 tops for the whole thing if you are smart about it. That way you can ditch the power robbing clutch fan.
