Air Bag Light on,compass/temp out. 1995

well low and behold, the Airbag light will come on if the fuse tht powers the compass/temp on overhaed counsule is blown,, guess what,, the back up lights are on the same circuit. Why would a engineer put the power to the airbag module on the same circuit as back up lights. HUMMM... what were they thinking. so if you air bag light is on ,, check you back up lights.. it may be a simple fix. I was all worked up as the vehicle wont pass inspection with it on..too many laws....in Maine

In the grand-er scheme of things, i.e. the wiring diagrams, it kinda makes sense.
The ignition switch has a wire that is hot in "START" and "RUN" positions, and a wire that is hot in only "RUN". The start&run wire is protected by fuse 14, and the run-only wire is protected by fuse 3 (which is the fuse you speak of).
The purpose of the wiring the way it is is probably for safety.
