You do not need a front clip. You can buy LA motor mounts but they are $400. With the magnum V8 you can use factory mounts, manifolds and Y pipe. But you might have a clearance problem on the right frame rail. The notch in the frame rail may be right behind where it need tobe.

Yah i found them on there, makes me almost wanna buy a magnum for it.

well i found some more tips/ parts for it, i think ill try to fab my own motor mounts first but if all else fails there is always here http://www.engine-swaps.com/
http://www.engine-swaps.com/window_D...Tech_Tips.html

Just some tips/ links for other people thinkin of doin the same. If i do end up being successful fabbing motor mounts (wont be till spring time that i attempt it) id be more than happy to give out drawings for them.

Thanks for all the support guys!

next summer I'm dumping a 318 im my 88 dakota. I'm taking it outta my 87 fith ave. parts car. so I will have everything I need. motor swaps arent that bad. I have put a 302 HO in my 88 for ranger, and that wasnt too bad. I made my own mounts and fabbed up everything myself. it did 12 sec. in the 1/4 mile. I'm hoping to get the dakota around 13-14 sec. cause I dont need anything that fast anymore.

If i could get it in the high thirteens id be thrilled. I still want it to have good vaccum at idle and still be able ta pull a trailer with it when I need to, so i wont go too awful crazy. Most likely a torque spec cam, intake, 4 barrel carb, thinkin like a 550 or 600 CFM and heads and maybe a set of headers. Just hope i can sneak her past emissions with a good cat and an air pump. Got a few projects ahead of her, namely 2 a604 rebuilds for the daytona and lebaron and gotta free the caliper up on the BMW. o well, least im half way done with the first a604.

Good luck with your swap, thats around the same time im going to be doing mine.

I thought long and hard about a 302 swap into a ranger, I had one before i got the dak, but just like the way the dak looks better and it has an 8 foot bed so its a tad bit more functional, and the rack and pinion is a nice touch as well.

I am also looking into the 360 swap for my 90 Dak. Any info would be very useful. I haven't bought the motor yet for the swap, but after seeing some of the posts abotu the magnum using the factory mounts, I might go that way. Mine isn't for drag racing, but will be used mostly for mudding when I put a SFA under it.

I have done a few swaps that looked harder than this one from the start... 4.3 into Samurai, 350 into 89 hardbody, 350 into a chevette(not easy). This one will be more involved becuase I also want to change it over to being 4x4 and possibly stretching the wheelbase out a bit. Most of the difficult parts will be the body work making the wheel wells look correct for the size of tires.

Later Daze,
Shorty

Well your truck did not come with a v-8 because it won’t fit. That is why dodge changed the front end in 1991. If you compare the two you will notice that the later Dakotas nose is not as flat so the fan will fit. Carol Shelby did put out some Dakotas with a v-8(one of which is mine)but they are ?297s? If I remember correctly and he used 2 pusher fans on the rad to pull this off. Hope this helps and sorry but I can’t help with the Trans issue.
I would beg to differ there. I put a built 318 into my 88 Kota with no major issues.I use a Derale Single Fan it pushes appr. 3000 cfm the hottest it has ever got was 220 degrees that was in 100 degree weather also. I used a kit from Shumacher and the motor dropped right in with no modifications. I also reused the stock a500 transmission also.

nice truck scatdak. whats your truck do in the 1/4? and so all you did was buy engine mounts then? I know there not that bad of a swap. I've done worse ones. so did you use the origional v6 tranny? i wouldnt think they would hold up to the power of the v8. I'm just gonna make a custom mount for the 727 if I have to.

but ya, I wanna see some more pics of that truck.
