Default swaping engines?

Ok well my friend wants me to find him a new (or rebuilt) engine for his 94' Dakota. He has the 3.9L V6 and it has 166,000 miles on her. What i'm wondering though is which V6's from the Dakota's would swap in? like from what years, Could i get a 2gn. V6 to swap in or would the electrical be REALLY different?

Default RE: swaping engines?

From 1992 on, the 3.9L was pretty much the same. (You can't use a pre-1992 motor, since the fuel injection system was totally differant)
The main thing that comes to my mind is that, I believe, starting in 1996, they got rid of the EGR (exhaust gas recirculate) system.
Other than that, most of the engine electrical should be the same.
