Default Bought to buy my first Dodge..90 convertible

**Bout to buy my first Dodge** wow I'm tired haha haven't slept all night..

Hey guys, I'm brand new here to the forums, and about to buy my first Dodge tomorrow.

It's a 1990 Dakota convertible (pics below)...I didn't even know they made a convertible truck until I came across this one, and I have to get it, too rare to pass up.

I'm wondering a few things when I go and check it out before I buy it..like what to look for?

Any common problems with the 89/90 verts? What should I look for...any obvious signs of problems you know of??

I ran an autocheck on it, and it came back great...4 owners, 140k total miles..1 owner for almost 10 years. says the transmission was serviced in 2006 (I'm assuming it was replaced since I read that it's common in Dodge's)...but it has only been driven 10k miles since the 2006 tranny work so hopefully that means it'll be like new...

Please let me know what you guys think, and if you have any suggestions. Thanks!

Cool! Ya it was the only convertible that I know of on trucks. Lets see some pics with the top down!

He didn't have any pics with the top down, but if I get it I'll be taking a bunch.

*I'm also wondering if there are any "cheat sheets" out there that someone might have handy? ex: lists of part numbers/specifications/aftermarket stuff available..etc..

Welcome to DodgeForum!

If you don't mind my asking, how much is the asking price? Those things are fairly rare these days! There is a white one around me that I've seen driving around... I like it!

Yeah, like said above, read through faq1 and faq2 at the top of the section. Those pages should be able to answer most of your questions!

exact same as my 89 4x4 sport except the soft top. 3.9 duel port injection, 4 speed od tranny, and most likely 3.90 gear ratio. keep an eye on ball joints (and tie rods if your off road a lot), keep regular fluid changes (the more tranny fluid changes the better) and you should be fine. ENJOY!

p.s. i got a shot at buying an 89 soft top with 75000 original miles for $9000. can anyone loan me that for about 40 years?

Hmm, this just hit me... one of the previous owners installed 2nd gen dakota seats and center console!!! If you get the truck, cause you do me a favor and post up pics of how they are mounted? I'm fighting that same mod!

Thanks for the tips mazda and everyone else about the FAQ's, I'll be sure to keep those handy.

@318 - funny you mentioned the seats, he told me the driver side seat is loose and needs a new mount, so when I get around to doing that next year I'll take some pics (currently about to close on a house, so I'll be a little busy until the end of the year moving and everything)

and...the greatest part of all of this...in about 5 hours I'm going to pick this thing up for $1,700 ..i bet i could put on ebay tomorrow and get atleast 3-4k, but i plan to keep for a long time even if the motor takes a dump.
