Default 2000 Durango Coolant ISSUES

I have a 2000 Durango SLT 4x4 5.9 with 92000. My AC only blows cold when i turn on the rear air conditioner. Anyone else ever seen that? It's still not real cold, so i'm suspecting it needs some freon. Any suggestions?

Yep, she's low. I tried to spend the money on all the gauges and stuff to do it myself with crappy results. Go get a good refill at a shop. It should cost around $99.

The rear air is re-cooling the air your front vents are blowing, that's why it feels cool there and not up front. The rear air setup changed for '01-'03 and they get the air sent to back vents just like our 2000 front vents. Their back vents are on the side and top but not in a seperate air conditioner unit like our 2000s are. I *think* '98s & '99s were the same as our 2000s FWIW.

Had it checked today, they said the fan clutch is bad. Anyone ever changed this ? or know where a walkthrough is for doing this?

Thanks

While you may have a clutch fan issue, I doubt that's it. Good luck.

It was low 1pd of freon also.. They filled it up with freon for me, but they said the clutch fan wasn't working right while the vehicle was idling.

How much is the e-fan you're replacing??? It might be worth it to you to just upgrade to a viper fan then you can ditch the clutch fan too and get some horsies and mpg out of it. [8D]

removing the shroud is a matter of 2 10mm bolts, and the stock clutch fan is a peice of cake

ratcheting wreches are your friends for both items

and its not freon, its refrigirant (technically r-134a), there is a difference.......

I replaced the electric fantoday, the clutch fan was fine. Took about 1 hr to swap them out. The electric fan brand new from Dodge is over $300.. I found one in a junk yard for $80. All is working good now.
