Check this thread, some may not agree with me. But my truck has been fine for 4 or more years now.

OK, I just cleaned with ATF. Let it idle for a while. Pressure was zero for a moment then went up. I drained the ATF added oil and started the DOdge wit hzero pressure again. THis time it stayed at 0, I started several times still at 0......with some ticking...very frustrating. Could it be the pumped? Where is the sending unit so I can test myself? Also, how hard is it to change the pump? PLease Help I need my Car!

I saw you on the other thread. Have you pulled your valve cover as Indy stated? Don't flip yet. Indy is 150% correct on what he states about sludge. You need to pull your valve cover and look. Secondly is your D four or two wheel drive? That matters in how hard a pump is to get to. But first follow what Indy is saying if you look at his responses he is right on.

I checked the pcv and it sounds clear. (rattles when I shake it). I havent taken off the valve cover yet, but I have one question. When I start the engine, clearly there is NOoil being pumped...I can hear it, trust me. Is that still something that can befixed via the valves? Obviously I am looking for the easiest and least expensive way out... I am no mechanic by any means. I am tempted tojust take it inand let them figure it out. I am more afraid of starting the work and not being able to fix it. Just aggravated that the purchase was made only 30 days ago from a private sellerwho no longer lives in the area. Id there a law against this??? Thank you all for your help.

I know this sounds like a broken record, nut your got to check under the valve cover. The reason I asked 4wd or 2wd is the that if 2wd drop oil pan and for the most part there is your oil pump. 4wd you've got the front end drive system to contend with. Check out under the valve cover and get back.

ive got the 5.2l and i had the same problem where the oil pressure would drop to zero and the check engine light would come on. came under heavy braking.
i just changed the oil pressure sending unit and my problems went away. it was about 30 bucks and 5 minutes of my time.
