Default Heater Core Bypass Question

Hi,

In order to deal with the blend door issue I decided to bypass the heater core by simply joining the pipes together...the result is ice cold A/C even when stationary...the blend door only closes properly at speed when the airflow forces it to seal, so I get luke warm A/C when stationary.

However for the winter I'll need to reconnect them to the heater core...

I have thought about simply installing a small stop **** to prevent water from circulating around...then I can control the amount to water that goes to the heater core, but then I wondered if this would damage the water pump...??

Whats the consensus...is it ok to stop the water circulating in those pipes...??

Chris

Orlandozfreak! You should at least plug the heater core inlet/outlet. If and whenever you decide to sell your rig, you may need to address the heater core.

No problem as long as your antifreeze is good. (you don't want the AC tofreeze plain water in your core and bust it)

I made a manifold to bypass the heater core. It has 3 valves that I use to either bypass or go to the core. I didn't want to have to play with the hoses and fluid 2 times a year.It made a big difference. For starters there is no morehot feet and if you are going down the highway you can just open the vent with the AC off and it blows cold air in.

If someone tells me how to put a picture on the actual thread, I will post a pic. And spell it out. I made a thread about it and only got confused. (Thanks Mean!) I am seriously a few crayons short of a box when it comes to that stuff...

What do you suggest you plug the heater core inlet and outlet with after doing the bypass?

Just to be clear to bypass the heater core I simply connect the two hoses at the firewall together correct? Anyone know what size coupler I would need?

you should be able to just measure the inside diameter of the hose to get that measurement, or it might even be written on the outside of the hose, take a look

you should be able to buy caps in the plumbing store which can be put over the ends with hose clamps to plug it up
