Default 01 Auxilary Steering Wheel Component Failures

I have an 01 4.7 that about 6 months ago the airbag light came on. I spoke with a few people who convinced me it was a clock spring that sits behind the wheel beneath the module. So I let that go do to laziness, about a month ago I lost all of my cruise control functions. I checked the entire fuse box and all fuses were fine. Then this morning I noticed I have no horn. I checked fuses and relays and still no problem. Then when I locked my door with the remote the horn beeped as normal so the problem with all three issues seems to be in the same area behind the wheel. Anyone had any or all these issues? Also any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
J

Sounds to me like the wiring harness inside the column itself has either been cooked or disconnected from everyday use. Try taking apart the housing around the column, and when you are doing that, be sure to disconnect the negative terminal since you are working around the airbag.

Thanks for the advice, I'll tear it apart.

Jackson:

The three symptoms you are having are all classic signs of a failing clockspring. The signals for these functions all go through it.

You might call your local 5 star and see if there might be any kind of a program relative to these. My bet is on the clockspring.

Plus 2 on the clock spring. Same thing happened to me. all the controls on the steering wheel does not work. Also, can hear the spring making noises when turning the wheel. I would have done this replacement myself, but I am not too experienced on removing the the airbag to get to the clockspring on the steering wheel.
