The emmsion hoses are about 1/2 in diameter and they're all crap. Two run from back at the gas tank all the up to the engine compartment and there are about 4 more there. They usually split where they are shoved onto their connectors.
I've had my 02 since new and have had to replace them all one annoying 442 or 455 code at a time. I told the dealer that they were defective after three different hoses split but they said it was normal. I have an 01 Grand am and have NEVER had a problem with a single emmision hose.
I think this should be a recall issue. Please call 1-800-chrysler or 1-800-992-1997 if you agree.

oh yea my 02 throws the evap codes every fall when the temp drops, we just turn them off and keep driving it and they stay off until the next fall so i think its just a temp change related thing
