Default Newb.. 2nd guessing tune up choices

Quick Intro - I just moved into a new home and, nowI finally have a garage, which allows me to do some DYI stuff on my Durango. I'm really proud of my Durango and,it's my first SUV/car that I've owned that wasn't some duck tape beater, ya know? But, I don't know a lot abouthigh performance partsor going about doing mods...etc... but, I'm trying to do my best to follow the stuff on here to make my Durango even better.

With that said... I went down to the parts storetoday to get a number of things (oil/oil filter, plugs, cap, wires, shocks). Went to get the Autolite 3923s and some MSD 8.5mm Super Conductor wires, when the sales clerkasked why I was using high performance wires with a standard plug. Not in a tone of inquiring but, in a tone of "are you stupid?" lol... Which lead me to believe, I was buying the wrong wires.

Now, I thought I was getting the right stuff. Should I'veopt for a lower grade wire setsince, I'm using a "standard" plug or,am I ok getting, what I was getting?

Oh, not to mention.. Went to buy the shocks(Edelbrock Performer IAS Shocks) and the guy told me that I wasn't off roading that I needed Monroe Sensatracs. ARGGG lol..

Either way with the move and everything my Durango is over due for a lot of stuff and, I need to get it done.

First question we need to ask you is what do you use your Durango for? How are you planning to drive it? etc..

Then we can correctly answer your question.

Mostlyjustdriving it around to and from andthe occasional haulingof atrailer. Now how I drive it? I have a tendency to gun it a lot. I love to feel that get up and go, when getting on the interstate. Other than that, that's pretty much it.

Thanks Kensai.

There, now we at least have enough info to assist you in picking out what you want. Judging from your comment, you use your D as a regular everyday driving and once in a while you like to rump it to feel the power surge as you enter the freeways. I assume MPG is not too important but would like to see improvements based on your driving habits.

For the low budget in mind, this is what I would recommend as the first step.

1. K&N drop in filter
2. RAM air intake
3. Hypertech III programmer.

Combination of these 3 will give you some noticable improvement in performance as well as in slight increase in MPG.

As far as maintenance, I would recommend using synthetic oil, use Champion Iridium truck plugs.

Ken has some good points and just so you know, a lot of those parts guys don't know their*** from a hole in the ground so don't be too concerned on what they think. I bet they think that plat's were the way to go with the plugs....

Also, on the shocks, the monroe sensatracs is more than enough for your everyday driving. If you drive a little more aggressively, then you may have to upgrade. Monroe Reflexes are great which is what I am using on my R/T. But alot of people recommend Billsteins as well. Whatever suits you. But I would not recommend shelling out the extra cash for these if you don't drive aggressively all the time. You are just paying just to have a name brand and may never use them to their full potential.

Stick with the 3923s you have AND the good plug wires. I have $125 a set Magnecor wires on my 3923s. You are fine. Good job in getting the right stuff.

I'll pick up a K&N drop in and order a Hypertech. Ram air intake, hmmm.. seems difficult. Or am I looking at the wrong stuff? http://www.stylintrucks.com/parts.aspx/partid/482204....plus new hood?

Today, I picked upa Mobil 1 oil filter and some Mobil synthetic oil (10w-30).I guess I can hold on to the MSD 8.5mm Super Conductor Wires then.

Also, I picked up some Sea Foam. Is this stuff, a use when something is wrong or, can it be used as good preventive maintenance? The Durango has 73k miles on it, figured I could run some of this through (tank, oil crank case, throttle body) per the instructions on Seafoam's website... http://www.seafoamsales.com/motorTuneUpTechGas.htm
