Default the day my tranny died....

well , i was on the way to work this am. It was rainy and yucky, so i didnt think about it when i slipped a tad going around a corner. well, i got around the corner, and all the sudden, the truck acted like it was wheezing. its a 1999 Durango SLT 4x4. it hit 4500 RPM, and wouldnt go over
10 MPH.So i pulled over, gave it a minute, since i was kinda in shock, it was early in the am. I tried to go again, and same thing happens. So i turn
off the OD, and still nothing. so i called a friend that works at a dealership, and explained. I KNEW it was tranny, but needed to be told.

When i first got the truck, it acted like it was slipping, but had the fuel filter replaced, and it seemed fine. now i know it was going the whole time, and im NONE to happy. When i got the truck, it was supossedly inspected, and when *I* had it looked at privately, it needed tie rods, lower control arms, ball joints and brakes ( the brakes fell off in the guys hands!!). Then the fuel filter thing, it was just made me LIVID!!!. Now im truckless till it gets fixed, or i trade out, UGH.

sorry if it became a rant, jsut not happy[:@]

I share your pain, my reverse gear went out on me in back in Aug 07. Dealer wanted $5400 for tranny replacement (including radiator), then I talked them down to $4300 but still a little high. Later i did some searching on the web and then remember fastman and his products and went to his site and saw they sell custom high performance rebuild trannys for alot less.

So I bought their tranny for $1700 (you might want to see if you can sell your old tranny locally as the $700 core deposit, you'll lose alot of it by shipping your old tranny back to them as you have to fork up the return shipping.

I had my buddy who is a mechanic and has his own shop to replace my tranny. All in all, parts plus his labor, the total tranny and radiator swap ran me $3500. Now I have a bullet proof tranny that hopefully may last for a few hundred K miles.

$1500 installed out the door is a great price. But cannot find any "reputable" places where I can really have confident that a $1500 rebuild will last a long time in the Dallas area. Been burned by private shops too many times. I rather pay the extra cash to take it to a dealer so if it breaks down again in a unreasonable amount of time, they can fix it under warranty or something. The reason I bought the custom tranny from Fastman is because he built a good client relationship with everyone in this dodge forum so I trust his products.

mean greenyou do understand there is a difference between rebuilt and remanufactured.
rebuilt means they only fix what is wrong,
remanufactured means they replace everything with new parts.

you need to pay close attention to the details on the wording....

I understand that but with 35k on the clock for the first rebuild and 45k for the 2nd and 3rd (OD section both times 80 miles apart from each other) it just was ridiculous and the biggest issue I found was that they used ATF+3 instead of 4 on the initial rebuild which is probably why between #1 and #2 I had it in their shop to replace various sensors 13 times...
