Does the power steering pump make any noises when you're turning the wheel? any whinning noises?

the resevoir may be full, however the pump may not be working well.....does it feel like there is no power assist at all, or just little assist? I don't know how to check if the pump is working well, somebody else may know. I'm thinking if you take the top off the resevoir while the engine is running, you may be able to hear the fluid circulating, or some sort of noise form inside the resevoir, however I'm telling you NOT to do this because you may let air into the systerm. Wait until somebody else says somehitng about this possible idea. I don't know enough about the system.

my 2000 w/ 4.7L doesnt seem like it requires a lot of force to turn. It takes less force than my 98 VW, but more force than a few honda's I've driven.

wait until somebody else seconds my motion to turn the wheel lock to lock with the top of the resevoir off....you're gonna need help from somebody to do this.....

I don't know how to bleed the power steering system incase you have some air in the line.

just out of curiosity, are you running stock sized tires?

The pump would bleed itself. Are you sure its not in 4hi?

could also be that the trans case has a problem.. yank out the front driveshaft and take it for a spin... pop it into 4H and see how it does... I just swapped out a bad t-case because the previous owner put an oversized spare on which awd setups dont like for long.

He means the 4Hi setting on the transfer case. The front driveshaft is a shaft that sends power to the front differential from the transfer case.

Is your durango a four wheel drive model? IF it is, there will be a switch on the dashboard that indicates what mode the transfercase is in. So when he said pop it into 4H he meant turn the switch to 4Hi
