Cost of transfer case seal replacement?
When the 2000 Durango 5.9 R/T I just bought was in for an inspection, the dealership said the transfer case seal has a leak in it (not enough to leak on the floor of my garage, and specifically they said in 3 places, 2 in the front or 1 in the rear or something?) and that I really would be wise to address this before winter when I'd be using 4x4. They said that the fix involved dropping the transfer case and would cost $600.
Is this a fair ballpark figure or should I search elsewhere for a lower price???
Thanks,

Kidd:
That price does not sound too far out of line, but check around and see what kind of a bid other shops might give you. That quote sounds like what a dealer might charge. My local star wanted $600 just to swap out my full time 4wd case and remove the part time unit.
Highway robbery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The seal that leaks on your transmission tail housing cost about 10 to 15.00 dollars if that. I would ask what is there labor rate per hour. Labor should be 2 to 2 1/2 hours.
