Default CATALYTIC CONVERTER QUESTIONS

HEY THERE..
IVE POSTED A FEW TIMES THIS PAST MONTH IN REGARDS TO SOME ISSUES IM HAVING WITH MY 2000 DURANGO SLT 4 X 4-I HAD A GAS SMELL AND A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND THEN HAD A MECHANIC CHANGE MY SPARK PLUGS AND TWO OXYGEN SENSORS SINCE THE FUEL WASNT BURNING CORRECTLY AND I WOULD GO FROM 100 DTE TO 82 DTE IN SEEMINGLY NO TIME-WELL, NOW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HASNT GONE OFF AND THE DTE MILEAGE IS BACK TO NORMAL AND THE GAS SMELL IS ALSO GONE- I DO SMELL A SLIGHT ALMOST METALLIC SCENT COMING IN THROUGH THE VENTS ONCE THE TRUCK GETS TO OPERATING TEMPERATURE AND I SMELL A RATHER STRONG SMELL OF EXHAUST OUTSIDE OF THE TRUCK-IS THIS THE SIGN OF A CATALYTIC CONVERTER GONE BAD? IF SO, DOES ANYONE HAVE AN IDEA WHAT THEY GO FOR AND WHAT THE USUAL LABOR IS FOR SOMETHING LIKE THAT? ALSO, IS THERE ANY CHANCE THAT THIS PROBLEM WILL START TO GO AWAY WITH EVERYDAY USE AS I ONLY HAD THE NEW PLUGS,SENSORS AND AIR FILTER CHANGED THREE DAYS AGO? ANY THOUGHTS AND/OR ADVICE WOULD BE HIGHLY APPRECIATED!

True.

Most muffler shops can do a back pressue test to fid out if it needs replaced for free. You don't want anymore than 3lbs for sure. I like to run 1-2 Lbs.

thanks for the advice..
it doesnt smell like rotten eggs -its more like a slight metallic scent that replaced the gasoline smell i was having before the new plugs,02 sensors, and air filters were added.

my shop charges for a direct fit convertor installed 475. takes about 45 min to install. however a convertor should never go bad, unless there is oil,gas antifreeze entering the exhaust system, bad plugs wires,o2's etc, broken or damaged hangers.

hey there..
had the cat replaced-truck drove fine for about three days then the exhaust smell came back, the MPG turned horribly worse than usual and finally the check engine light came on this a.m- the mechanic checked it this a.m and it came back that the circuits for the 02 sensors were operating too slowly? Is there a correct way to remedy that? any help is appreciated
