They say that electricity is the best of all fuels. zero emissions and electric motors have greater torque and power vs fueled engines. Only thing is the battery technology isn't here yet to provide the long trip durations and quick recharge cycles.

CNG is best to go as it is in natural gaseous state. But I hate to have to worry about the safety constraints on a car carrying cng and what would happen if you were in a pretty good rear end accident. What are the chances of the tank rupturing and possibly exploding?

Can it be any worse than having 15-20 gallons of gasoline in the tank? I'm not so sure it would be any less safe, and you could argue that it might even be better in a crash. Gasoline can puddle up on the ground and wait for a long time before an ignition source finds it. Natural gas would more easily dissipate into the air once the container failed. It would be loud and probably pretty scary in a crash, if the container were to rupture but any more dangerous than gasoline? I personally don'tthink so...

I'm really considering puttinga natural gas conversion kit on my Dakota. I've heard that there's a kit that you can install with a switch to either run on gasoline or Natural gas. Anyone know where I can get one of these?

Check out the Prins LPG system. installed is gonna cost around 3600, which includes the tank, labor, and engine mods. Its going on my truck next week, as I have a good friend who is getting me bulk rates for propane (around 49 cents a liter). Yes, there is a power loss, and yes you will use more of it, but the fuel is safer than gasoline, and it has comparable range, as it is a liquid that gets vaporized before the combustion process.

I'd really rather have CNG than LPG.

Is there a similar system by the same company?

Check this out.

http://www.prins-lpg.com/en/products/vsi-cng/index.html

They have multiple systems for different applications, as well as many dealers across the US.

From what I have heard, this company offers the best retrofit alternative fuel systems for the money.
