OK.... update/ ancient thread on which I doubt the original participants from way back are still around (they may be.... if so then that's awesome) but there are still a bunch of these 01-03 Durango's out there.... I just finally tore into mine to investigate..... besides being lots more "crap" under the back seat than I would have thought (I don't think I have ever flipped those up since I bought this thing and that has been 6+ years ago)-- great time to get the shop vac out) I took the mid seat (by the back doors) and the way back seat completely out (probably didn't need to but only 10 bolts for both seats) and I found the same thing as pictured above.... the door by the heater core was busted. By the code the dealer guy told me he pulled out with the DRB, I would have thought it was the one further forward in the HVAC box..... but no. Seems like anybody's I hear and see about that break, are that same door, never seem to bust out the front one. I have 2 good used actuator motors from that junkyard refugee that I got replacement seats from to go into my rig, mentioned above that I ripped apart (its the junkyard/ I didn't care haha) and I have 1 brand new actuator motor. I'm headed out to test the original actuators with a pair of jumper leads as I have then completely out of the truck right now.... had to come in and find my jumper leads.
Screw count that I had to remove to spread the housing in place was 17, including the 6 between the pair of actuators-- NOT counting those holding the inner quarter trim or the seats in place/

I replaced both doors with the ones from Blend door USA/ since I had it apart, and what they send is the pair of them (IDK if one or the other could be bought by themselves, you'd have to call them) it didn't make sense to take all that apart, and change only 1.... though I can't tell you how long it has been since either of these actuators or doors actually moved as they should, the foam on both factory doors was damp and kinda sorta "sticky".... but there is no evidence of any leakage.... Im guessing condensation from sitting outside and no hear running thru the HVAC unit in who knows how long to dry things out..... and the 3 years this thing sat til 2 months ago as a garage ornament on account of needing an engine.....
lotsa work and expense to get rid of 2 blinking lights on my dash that drive me nuts. Now that I have seen the innards of mine for myself, I'd have been inclined to fix the busted door with that $2 Ace hardware sleeve... both of my original couplers were fine. but the Blend Door company's parts are well made, cant deny that/ the only curious thing is that their aluminum couplers that replace these troublesome white plastic ones have no tab built into them.... I guess Blend Door company expects the doors themselves to max out and act as their own stops. Not that I think that would hurt anything now, being what they are made out of as compared to original.... and using the doors themselves to find their own limits would make for a better seal within the air box.....

I only wish I found out about the non-functioning rear HVAC on our 03 Rango before the daytime temperatures here in North Dakota dropped well below 0. Going to have to wait until spring to do the repair.

In any event, a special shout out to 70cuda4speed and Daves69 for the info.

Might be an "ancient thread" but it's exactly why I joined this site so many years ago. The solution fits my problem exactly, gives pics, and options for repair.

Would any of these awesome write-ups and advice possibly pertain to why the air flow from the vent above the 3rd row is awesome (but unneeded) and the air flow from the vents above the rear doors is garbage (where people actually sit)?

Don't seem to have any issues with switching from heat to ac, or fan speed control, just an airflow problem...

Awesome info here tho, thanks in advance!

When I was doing my heater core couple years ago I almost forgot to hook back up the hose going back to the rear diffuser....could be that yours has come off/clogged/smashed?/etc.

Hello, I'm Ralf from Germany. Last year I bought a 2001 Durango SLT, disassembled it down to the last screw and reassembled it. Since then, I have been following many posts here in the forum and have often found help. Thanks a lot for this. Now I also encountered this flapper problem, the two doors were broken in the case. I glued both back together and reinforced them a bit, but after assembly they were destroyed again by the motors. What can be the cause? Do the motors need to be recalibrated? If yes how? Do you need a DRB scanner that can access the HVAC system? The original Chrysler DRB 3 scanner for the Durango is very expensive, is there an equivalent alternative? Many thanks for the help

Aren't the doors on the O1 vacuum powered??

There is a company that is a site sponsor, that makes replacement doors.... Blend Door USA, don't know if they ship overseas though. Worth getting ahold of them, and asking though.

Pics of your 'Rango?
