Default Roof paint chipping & cracking

The paint on the roof, directly in the center,is beginning to chip and crack.I was at a local Dodge dealer last week, getting my central timer module replaced. So,I had them give me an estimate on the roof, while I was there. They wrote me up a quote of $2,055.75! I was like....WHOA!!!! I contacted my insurance company, and had them take a look at it.And of course, they're telling me it's "normal wear and tear".They're pretty much insinuating that,I had a previous roof repair done.Which IS NOT the case,at all! I'm not the original owner. But,the three years in which I've had the Durango,I've never had any type of paint problem, until now.Just eyeballing it,I'd hardly call it "NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR".Just a bit curious,if anyone else may have had or be having,a similar problem?Any suggestions/possibilities,of what may be causing this?

Thanks!

Why would your insurance company need to be involved? Of course that is not an insured issue.

What it is MAY be a poor paint job, etc... but that all leads to wear and tear. The vehicle is at least 5 years old. Have you waxed the roof... EVER? Without some protectant of some sort... that's simply gonna happen.

Good luck with it.

Well,again...I'm far from an expert in the "body repair" field. But,when I get an estimate of two k,you bet I'm gonna contact my insurance comp! Particularly, when I wash and wax the vehicle religiously. That's my point,I DO wax it on a regualr basis.I realize over time things happen. But,I just don't by the "normal wear and tear" argument, here.

i have never seen that happen as a normal wear and tear problem. i do paint and body work and that looks like 1 of 2 things. it is a bad paint job from the factory, or it has been repainted and it was not preped right and it started to crack and peel. this could be that any where from 1 - 4 years ago it had some damage to the roof that had to be painted, and it was not preped right to keep costes down.

It still has nothing to do with your insurance company.

I have a few spotswhere theclearcoat is peeling off mine. Maybe I will hit my insurance up too.......LOL.
You know how many fresh paint jobs we would see on the street if insurance covered it.
When you get off the phone with the insurance company I am sure they will all have a good laugh in the office.
You would have better luck beating it with a basball bat and say it was a vandalized
Goodluck and let us know how it goes.
BTW... I had to read your handle twice to make sure I read it right

Vandalism is a covered peril under the comprehensive component of auto insurance.

Old paint peeling due to age and the sun on a roof is not.
