Well, I need to step it up now... my wife is now complaining about the front end squeaking and groaning. I think I might just try that white lithium grease idea for a short term "bandaid" fix until I can get the right bushings and do the job right.

Yeah I got mine from lowes. I used the straw that came with it to keep the can upright in the tight space that we have next to the headers.
The good thing is that the grease last a good while when you saturate the bushings.
The bad thing is the rain washes it away.
Good luck.

I sprayed it with the white lithium grease today, have to give it a few days to see if it helps..although i know its just temporary. * while under the truck looking at the bushings on the the sway bar, it looks like there is about 1/4" of space on the sway bar that has been moving back and forth in the bushing. Don't know if that made any sense, but other than the squeaking, how does one know when its time to replace the bushings? I have 150K+ miles on the D. I recently replaced the shocks, but what about the sway bar bushings...

you should be able to tighten the nut on top of the bushings down. any time you have a gap like that of smaller it probably it time for new bushings. I personally when to autozone and got some energy suspension bushings for mine. if you spray the control arm bushings top and bottom, saturate them the grease should seep in the cracks.

If they are squeaky and driving you nuts that is usually the first sign. After a while they will start dry rotting.
