Default 02 durango to 00 dakota brake interchangability

we have an 02 2wd 4.7 durango with some slotted ssbc rotors on it. the rotors were recently turned. my FIL has a 00 2wd v6 dakota, that we would liek to install these rotors on as we are upgrading again to drilled/slotted from ssbc, with pads. we will of course also replace his pads at the time of the swap.... will our durango rotors fit his dakota?

They should fit just fine. Just look them over but the bolt pattern is exactly the same.

thats what i thought, was just not sure if they did something like put bigger brakes on the suv with the v8 or something liek that.... although, i know they are essentially the same platform..... but the dakota, didnt have a v8, unless it was the r/t

No they also had the 4.7 and 5.9 for the Dak. The 5.9 IIRC was only available in the quad cab and R/T versions though.

ok sounds good.... i didnt know the 5.9 or any other v8 was available in any other dakota than the r/t

sounds like the rotors from the rango will defiantely fit the dakota then....

Just remember, once slotted rotors are turned they will will have a shorter life due to most warping, last i knew on most you can only have it done once.

there are two different front brake systems offered on the dakota/durango platform (btwn me and my dad we have owned a dak w/ each system, and now my durango has one of them)

one of the systems is the dual pistons on the front brakes with the sliders that need greasing

the other one is just a single piston caliper on the front which doesnt have teh sliders

if they have the same system then the rotors will be interchangable, if they have different systems then the rotors will be different sizes (diameters).

ok to try and clear that up here is an example:

my truck has the smaller brakes on the front and my dads dak has the bigger set, his rotors are significantly bigger than mine and would not fit into my caliper, but at the same time my rotors would not fit into his caliper because the entire surface of the pads would not contact the rotor.

if i was home id take some pics for ya but i wont have that option till the 18th after all my finals are over

hope that was helpful and sorry it was so long but good luck and i hope that this works out for you

if there is an issue with the rotors being different sizes, would it matter that both have 15" stock alloy rims help any?

would not help my old dak the the 15" rims and my current Durango has the 16s and they both have the same breaks on them so idk how to tell except to pull them off and check(btw my dads truck also has the 16" rims but the bigger breaks on them)

if you can take a picture of the break assembly from each truck ill take a look and might be able to tell you if they should interchange

yeah, if i had both trucks to take apart, i could check it myself, haha..... both of these trucks aren't where i am at, that's why i was asking, so i could take my tools and have both swapped out in about 10 minutes.....
