Default Strange noise....

Ive noticed the last couple of days a rather loud noise that sounds like alot of air escaping. I thought at 1st it was my NEW tires I just bought, but when I open the hood it gets louder. I am thinking it may be the fan everyone keeps talking about. Do you think my extended warranty will cover this?

The fan clutch maybe the noise or maybe water pump. As far as warranty, You need to ck with the dealer.

Is this like a hissing sound?

I would take a (cheap) hose and cut a 2-3 foot length of it and use it as a stethescope to trace the location of the noise if you're having a hard time tracking it down.

While the engine is cold open the hood and DO NOT START the motor. Try to turn the fan. It should take a little force to move it but not a lot. If it is hard to turn then the fan clutch is locked up and needs to be replaced. It's about $100 bucks so I don't know how much your deductable is.

Is it air escaping or hissing, its hard to tell the difference. Possibly a cracked or loose vacuum hose?

It is a loud hissing noise. Its not any louder from one side or the other. I will have to try the (turning fan by hand) later, it was just driven. If it were a vaccum, wouldnt I be getting codes or atleast be running rough?

Depends on the size of the leak.
