Default 99 Durango 5.2 dies in reverse when cold.

I have a 99 Durango that dies or runs very poorly in reverse when cold (under 40deg ambient). It doesnt act like it's locking up, it acts like fuel or ignition. Put it in drive and it is as smooth as can be. If I leave it in drive for about 3-5 minutes it will work in reverse just fine. Wierd problem.

The fluid and filter was changed in September. The symptoms are similar to timing or fuel. It basically runs really sick in reverse if at all. Something is sending a strange signal to the PCM which was changed by the dealer recently.

Don't forget the band adjustment while you're in there.

Greens right. You have to adjust the reverse bands.

It is strange that the load of the motor is doing this.

Delay ingaugement of 6 seconds or less is normal. If the engine keeps stalling in reverse, when cold. Then you may need to have the line pressure ck'ed. Or let the engine warm up, before putting the trans in reverse. Specs for line pressure in reverse is 220 psi and drive is 120psi. If line pressure is not within specs, there maybe a problem with either the reverse piston or seal.

I guess I could have the pressures checked. It just seems weird to me because it doesn't feel like the motor is being loaded down to the point where it dies. It feels more like the key is being turned off.
