Default 4 wheel drive, and tranny problems??

Hi. I have a 2000 Durango 4x4. It is equipped with a 4.7l engine and a 45rfe tranny. As I stated in another post, I was having a problem with an engine knock on the top side of the engine. Someone recommended putting a quart of atf in the engine, and running it for a while to clean the valve train. I decided as long as I was doing that I would change the tranny fluid, and transfer case fluid. Does any one no the capacities of the tranny and transfer case?

Also, I have a very annoying problem with my four-wheel drive. When I get to speeds above 40mph in for wheel drive, the truck shakes very violently. The problem seems to get worse after a snow storm. The truck also doesn't shift out of four-wheel drive very well. You can put the shifter in 2wd, and it stays in 4wd until you put the truck in reverse. If anyone has any input, I would be delighted to here is. Thanks.

I know the transmission will take 6 qts when you service it. Not sure on the transfer case.

I do know that when in 4x4, you will get a driveline wind up if the tires have no slipage to releave it, like on dry pavement. The transfer case is what releaves the wind up if theres no slip in the wheels after a certain amount of travel in 4x4. I do not know the kind of transfer case you have though. The fix that I recall, was a synthetic Transfer case fliud. I hope this helps.

45RFE trans capacity is 13.25 L or 14.0 qts dry, service may take up to 9 qts. Transfer case use's ATF+4 or dexron takes 2.5 to3.0 qts.
