Transmission Problem
I have a 1999 Durango 4WD 5.2L Automatic. When it is cold and been sitting, I start off shifting fine. After a couple of miles it starts taking off in 3rd gear. I can manually change to 2nd gear and then manually change to 3rd gear but it doesn't change. First trans shop said needs rebuild. I had filter and fluid changed with no shavings so I don't think it needs rebuilding. Next trans shop eplaced solenoid switch but that didn't fix it. Said I needed a new computer (engine light on with code 0753). I put new computer in, still same thing happening. Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated.
Hello and Welcome to the forum!
You din't need a new PCM!
code is:
P0753 Shift Solenoid A Electrical
If the shop didn't put the right fluid in it would do this. ATF+lll, or ATF+4 is Fully Synthetic. They might of changed the wrong solenoid. Also a transmission output sensor might help.

Did you have this code before any of the work was done? If you did, I would say you may have a governor and transducer problem. But your code is for the 3-4 shift solenoid. Which is on the valve body, And your code came on after the service, the 3-4 shift solenoid wire could be pinch beteen the filter and valve body. At this point you may to replace the valve body with a reman. The valve body comes with all solenoids and a filter. And ck the band adjustment too.

Yes, the check engine light was on before I did the first thing to it, which was change the fluid & filter. It's strange because when it first takes off cold, it shifts fine, no problems. After a couple of miles of warming up it starts off in 3rd and never changes. What is the proper ATF I should use?
