It's too bad your experience cost you more in the long run. Many of us have purchased used and everything worked fine (expect the bloody knuckles, which you'll get regardless of new or used).

As others have stated, buy it used with a return policy, $55 to $100.

Good luck.

Danny, No the 4wd lights do not come on when moving the selector switch. Nothing happens either transfer case or lights on 4wd. Everything else electrical in vehicle seems to work fine.

The interesting thing is she said they fixed a tranny hose leak and then got it back with that warning light on. Wonder if they forgot to plug something back in at tranny and just were trying to rip her off? I should go look under vehicle as well...
Some things are just fishy... I had my ribbon cable (?)(up the steering wheel) replaced and my TCCM went out upon return to me. The place swears they didn't do anything wrong with the module. Not trusting them, I replace on my own to "see" if they were BS'ing me. $65 later, I was back in business.

Spend the $100 and change it out yourself.

oh, BTW, changing it is not easy when you've never seen one before. The knee plate removal does not make it appear in plain sight. It's still behind the dash barely in view. I am NOT a motor head DIY, but I did change my own. Surprised and proud when I accomplished it (after what I went through). DIY'ers do this every day without blinking. I almost threw in the towel, but glad I didn't. If you've read every page on this thread, you'll read my experience.

Good luck.

Thank you. I just ordered used one with warrenty. I am a backyard mechanic type so hopefully it might help. However I am a big guy with big hands so maybe not LOL. Was it the allens removal that was hard or the getting it out and new on in? Funny thing is dealer while wanting 450.00 for new module only is charging hour an half labor so they must have some secret to it.'

One thing still confusing me is my 4wd needs servicing light is on. Has anyone else had this warning light on and there TCCm bad? No lights on the 4wd selector switch.

Thanks all!

Hi Robbadodge.

My problem is, I live in Iceland and the return policy does not work for me. It would cost me more than $100 to return the bad module. Sales tax alone is $25.50 on the $100 and other import taxes plus shipping will be more than $100. So my option is to throw this one away and try it again, but a new one this time. I would love to find me a used Dodge Durango up here, but that is not an easy task. Not that many here.

Best regards,
Icedodge.

Update,

Well got lucky cruzing Craiglist and found a posting for a local junkyard that showed a just arrived 2001 Durango to its pick and pull inventory.

Arrived early and was pleased to see an intack dash and a 4.7 auto model with 112.000 miles. Rear was wasted but front of car great. Too bad someone already snagged the leather seats in front.

Well removed kick panel couple screws and popped it off. Saw the blue module in place. Seemed I could get better access with removing the panel next that goes from kick panel to ashtray so I removed those screws but kind of had to rough jimmy that panel off. Was I missing a screw somewhere?

First I though, Oh this is going to be a biatcccch. But really besides some sore hands it was not very hard.

1. Removed top right screw. I had heard this was hard to get to. Not really. Used I think my thin closed end 5/32 wrench and was able to loosen about a half rotation while keep finger on it so it would not remove from screw kinds rotated back and forth. Got it half out and then used fingers to remove screw rest of way.
2. Bottom two screws are piece of cake with phillips screw driver to remove.

3. Next was to me the hardest part. Sliding it forward little to see clip of first ribbon cable (large black one) Pop clip and pulled out.
Next middle gray one was tough either pushing or pulling unit. Got it out.
Then last was small black one. For that I used pressure to push complete unit forward and down towards firewall. Popped it off.

Then I found it pretty easy to push still forward while angle down towards firewall and it came out fairly easy in my hand.

Complete removal I would give 45 minutes max.

I do not see how you could get enough slack in the 3 cables to try unit in your car. Seems they are pretty tight to where you have to mount TCCM in car.

So I got a matching number unit for a whopping get ready.... $5.00 and not tax. Hope it works as the price is right!

Hope getting it back in is easier then out. Hope I did not jinx myself. Still have to pull old one out of my Durango to put this one in.

I was able to remove my TCCM thanks for direction in this thread! Thanks!.

I will get a replacement this week, truck runs fine without the module, which is nice, so I can take it to the pick-n-pull and try out the new modules before buying.

QUESTION: Did anyone try to remove the HVAC actuator that is blocking the TCCM from coming right out? (looks like the blend door actuator). In my truck this module is what is making the TCCM so difficult to remove......it looks to be held in by 2 8mm bolts....maybe if I take it off and don't actuate the blend mode door it will just bolt back on and allow me to easily re-install the new TCCM.....OR, if I take those two bolts off a bunch of springs will pop out and the dash will fall apart into a million pieces.......

(Also, I started another thread because when I pulled the kick panel off to remove the TCCM I found a hanging module under my dash!!!?!?!?!? WTF!)
