Default AWD / 4Hi-Lock Indicator light

I purchased an AWD 2000 Durango and on the shifter on the floor, I have these options...

4 Lo-Lock
N
4WD
4 Hi-Lock

This is my first 4WD vehicle, but my question is, when I shift into 4 Hi-Lock, I don't get an indicator light on the dash... any ideas???

I don't think you have an AWD. That only came on the R/T???????

There is a transfer case switch that tells the lights to come on. It might be bad.

He could have the nv242 transfer case, which would give him 4Hi-Lock ( partime)and 4Hi-Lock ( fulltime ) and 4Lo-Lock. But like you said the switch maybe bad or unplug. Always use 4Hi-Lock ( fulltime ).

You'll right, I was looking at a NP242 and though it was the NV242.

That light comes on when the front axle vaccum unit engages the axle-right?=sometimes my doesn't turn on in cold weather until the truck warms up.after being driven abit but the 4wd is engaged. My case is the np231hd in my 99 d.

No there is no axel or diff accuator. The transfer case is engaged therefore locking in the diff's. The diff's are always locked.

Sounds like yours is push button and therefore vacuum engaged. When the truck is cold the vacuum is greater alowing more fuel and things like transfer case could be avoided. Sounds like the accuator on the T-case tho.

I have the 1998 transfer case. The manual states that this is a 'shift on the fly' unit. I have found that if I try to shift it into or out of 4WD while sitting still I have a problem. I have had the gears seem to want to lock up while turning initially. However, if I make the shift when the truck is moving below 50 mph it goes right in or right out.
