which engine do you have, the 4.7 or the 5.9???
on teh 4.7 they tend to "tick" for about a min after starting, mine has done that since it was driven out of the showroom brand new (as per my parents who bought it new, it was the floor model
i second seafoam in the vac line and maybe time for a tune up

Did you check your distributor cap and rotor.......
If the tick is the product of combustion wear a pair of gloves and remove one spark plug wire at a time with the engine on.
after you check the cap, rotor and wires=if you mist the wires at dark you might see if the wires are arcing....
If nothing changes the tick with the plug wire test it's probably mechanical{lifter, pushrod bent.worn out rocker arm etc}...
also if you have one check the engine vaccum witha gauge-if it's steady your good...If erratic it could be a valve etc...
Only a leak down test of each cylinder with the valve train completely loose=so the valves are completely shut can rule out a bad valve etc......
You can get a large chunk of carbon crud from those plugs not firing right to get stuck on a valve seat=Seafoam like Shrp said the engine running can dislodge it.
also an old timer method is to mist water into the throttle body with the engine running and revving the motor will using a fine mist spray bottle to mist the water in =no very much is needed and don't rev the engine past 3000rpm
How many miles on the motor?????? One last thing you say a popping noise=like marbles in a tin aka detenation?---
If so then check your intake gasket.
pull the pcv valve and the breather hose to airhat=block off the pcv hole in the valve cover with a finger ant the same to the breather hose hole in valve cover on opposite side-
If you get vaccum feel from your fingertips have someone raise the rpms=if more vaccum is felt the gaskets of the intake plenum need to be resealed...
You can also find outer intake leaks by using an UNLIT propane torch around the area where the intake meets the heads =if the idle goes up then you have found the leak=the propane will get sucked in and raise the rpms
