8,000 miles on my brakes and they already took a dump!
Did quite a bit of off-roading today (will have pics later) and when we were done, on the way down the hill, I had to keep applying the brakes and ride them a bit... It was about 5 miles of this AND being in 1st gear... Anywho... We get on the main road and I notice the D starting to pull left... Kept pulling more and more... Thought I had a flat tire, so I pulled over... I noticed smoke coming from the drivers front... UH OH! I get out, and take a look... 1 foot flames are coming from my red hot rotors, pads and calipers... Yup! Calipers were red hot too! Luckily I stopped next to a puddle and started to fling water into the wheel... Fire out! Drove home (6 miles) at 10 mph so they didn't over heat again... Every 2 miles the pads would wear down enough to where there was no drag, but when I applied the brakes again, it wouldn't pull back... So, bought me some new calipers, rotors and pads and hope this doesn't happen again when I go wheelin....

you got after pics for this one??????????
and btw the first thing that went through my mind was OMFG, i woulda never done that w/ my truck, but then my rig is my "baby" and gets treated as such (weekly wash, monthly wax/detail ect, ect) and the only off-roading i have done lately is when i jumped the curb to avoid rear-ending some ******* trying to get off the highway
Sorry, no after pics... It wasn't too dirty... Just over the hood... Nothing on the windows or roof... Plus, the rain washed it all away.... I don't know weather to keep the Durango and mod it or just get a Jeep or Suzuki like the one pictured... But the Durango doesn't seem like it was meant for off road at all... It did decent, I was pretty happy, but it just couldn't do the rock climbing that the Samurai did...
lol look at the wheel base difference... Ur rig looks bone stock with little to no off road mods , the other has way over sized tires and big lift.. Don't be so quick to say that these rigs can't off road because they can do it very well, true not as well as some other rigs can but Durango can hold its own.

to be honest, these trucks make decent off-road rigs, but if you want an AWESOME off-road rig i would get an old wrangler w/ the 4.0l I6 (yea i know what your gonna say, but EVERYONE has one of those, well theres a damn good reason for it) and build that, jmho
It's all up to the driver......IMHO
I've had a old Hyundai Excel when I was a kid and I had it up to the bumper of a Jeep fully mod'ed using a winch to get it up........LOL
You wanna talk about some supprized drunk ignorant ******** espesially when I told em to get out of the way.......LOL

Yeah, I guess... I just didn't want to hurt my baby! LOL! Too many big rocks up there... I didn't want to risk ripping off the transfer case since it is the lowest thing on the vehicle... If I had a skid plate over it, I wouldn't really care....
