I think HS is planning on doing a test.

I haven't ever read of a failed attempt because no one has tried it that I know of... that has actually posted up all the info on any forum I visit.

If I could get somebody to send me old one I'd do it. I tried the junk yard and everyone takes out the drive line so I can't break the torque on the shaft nut. I have the press and everything needed but ??????????? I gotta get and old one.

I recieved the old Timken HA599361 Wheel Bearing assembly from user Donna'sDango. The bearing inside reads part number JRM4500-SB. I have gone to the Timken web site to try to see if this bearing is available also, I've tried to cross reference the bearing with no luck for a rebuild of just the pressed bearing swap. This is the 2 wheel ABS system that is present in the 1998-1999 Durango that is absent of the front wheel ABS sensors.

I have a friend (machinist) that I will go to next to try for a compatible replacement bearing?????

Anybody have a clue?

There is a whole bearing thread HERE covering the part #s, etc. It should have everything you need data wise in the thread.

This is the thread so I wanted to add to it including part numbers. If you get into machining work you should know that you can't just install different%

So half my post was lost........hmmmmm.......that's kinda strange???????

Anyway, I'm sure that the bearing they are using SET815 is only for a 2wd and not a 4wd. The reason I'm saying this is you look up any 2wd Durango 1998-2003 and you will find that bearing pack (2 bearings) listed.......Hmmmmmmmm

If you look at the service manual the spindle on a 2wd match those bearings (from site and bearing type). Now looking at this hub assembly, there is no lock ring and the bearings used look like a set of machine match sealed ball bearing. This is different then that of a tapered ball bearing (like the SET815) which is lubricated by packed grease. These look like 2 completely different puppies dude! The ID of the JRM4500-SB bearing is about 1 13/16" and an OD of about 3 1/16", I'm not sure of the width yet.

What going to have to happen is a tear down of the hub assembly to confirm my hypothesis but considering I know my gearing and bearings I'm 98% sure of this.

The bearing CANNOT be rebuilt!

I tested this theory and if went down in a ball of flames. The above mentioned "SET815 bearing" is for the 2wd ONLY! After tearing into the hub assembly with a hydraulic press it was found to be just that (an assembly). The bearings are custom made and the races are also built to be a mounting surface. With that said, there is no way to rebuild a hub assembly period!

The bearings themselves cannot be replaced

Well, now that we know the 4wd front hubs cannot be rebuilt, does anyone have a sure fire way of checking the condition of the hubs? I have 95K on my '03 Durango.
