Well if it is controled by a temp sensor then it will shut off the solenoid when temperature is achived. If there is a different hot leg going to the control unit with low amps and NOT draw amps which sould go to the PDC on a lined fuse then I would say fuel pump fuse.

Basiclly if you have a main power wire for the fan run that off the PDC (yes it's like hooking to the battery but without the corrosion) and the control unit off the fuse for fuel pump. on the cold side.

So I can use the fuel pump relay, what amperage is it? Here's the schematic in words: Ground -->e fan-->thermal solenoid--> 30amp fuse--> battery. That's it, no on/off switch to control the power input. That's why I want the engine-on only power relay. What I would like is: Ground -->e fan-->thermal solenoid--> 30amp fuse--> ignition-on only power. So the e fan is not "hot" all the time.

Using that schematic pulling 30 amps on start up will blow anything I can think of.

You could get a Thermal Controled Fan Solenoid. This way for the power to continue thru the Thermal Control Solenoid a hot leg pulling minimal amps would turn on the solenoid thus opening the connection. This minimal amp connection could come from fuel pump cold side relay or other 15 amp keyed fuse.

Thanks guys. I was thinking about my situation and I thought if I used a relay to turn on the power, would it help with the surge? Ummm... did I just repeat what Hydra said?

Just got mine in the mail from Summit yesterday. Still haven't opened the little box.

Indy, thanks for your input but I have spent alot of money on this mod already. I'm gonna use a four prong relay here's the connection schematic:
terminal 85 goes to ground
terminal 30 goes to 12 volt power
terminal 86 goes to switched power
terminal 87 goes to thermal switch

High costs? what are relays? $6 or so?

All lv360ram and I are just saying there is the perm way to do it and the backyard way with a handful of relays. If you are concerned with the draw at startup, a relay isn't going to help that at all. However, a controller such as the VSC has that capacity to delay the fan at startup as part of the package. Plus... it under $100.

All in all, a fan swap is not a lot of money expense to begin with. I have the controller, brand new fan, brand new radiator, brand new shroud, brand new bottles and brand new hardware for less than $300. What have you done to end up with a lot of money in it?

Good luck, post pix.

Indy and lv, I really appreciate what you guys are telling me but I guess I'm just too stubborn and impatient to wait for a part to complete my mod. I have been doing the mod off and on because I don't have the time or patience (see the pattern? ). I just get what I needed at that time but didn't think of what else I needed down the road. So far the mod has cost me:
Torqflo 14" fan : $75
Thermal switch : $25
Misc. stuff : $10
Relay : $5
Total : $115
Besides, I'm a cheap bastid and impatient!!! I want it done right away! I want to get it done by this weekend so I can enjoy the fruits of my labor.
Indy, you have a kinda major project to do, omho. I just wanted to add a pusher because my stock efan died and I didn't feel like or wanted to take things apart to replace it. Maybe I'll get around to it some day. Besides I don't have a garage to do the work into the wee hours of the night. My wife took that over for storage!...LOL. I'll take some pics over the weekend after the mod to show you guys.
