what would be the reason for the noise in the engine bay ? like i said i drove it 3 miles to mc donalds and the only problem was a rough idle. Then as soon as i left mcdonalds it started acting up and as soon as the noise starting in the engine bay it started overheating.

I had a similar situation with my '00 D last summer.. replaced the hose, Tstat.. everything..

Finally had to take it to a local garage here in town for a pressure test. System checked out fine.

It was the cap that was bad.

$65 for the pressure test... $8 for the cap.. never had a problem again.

I had never heard of a radiator cap going bad before.. and certainly not causing the problems that I was facing!

Long story short, assume nothing, test everything.
