Broken Vacum hose
Windwalker. I've got the same issue. did your mechanic remove the block the hose goes into off the fire wall? the bolt you speak of was that holding the block in place. any more detail appreciated.
thanks, Frank Hannon

Frank, I'm not real sure what he did. It was maybe a 10 minute fix. He had dealt with them before and reached under the dash, and then went and got another piece to use to couple the two ends together?
It occurs when someone works around the drivers side of the engine, like changing the distributor cap etc and they stress the hose causing it to pop off or break off the little block under the dash.
I remember him mentioning the block, seems like he did remove it, but don't know exactly that he did, sorry. Reading back through my last post I noted that he did remove a bolt to get to it, but think it was to move a piece of duct work out of the way.

Thanks for the input Windwalker. I was able to remove the screw holding the block located just above the gas pedal. I ended up splicing in a new vacuum line after removing the block and bringing the engine compartment line together with the line attached to the block above the gas pedal, and just like that we now have regained control of the vent selection switch once again.

Thanks for the help. Took it to a mechanic friend who has seen it several times. The hard hose was broken apparently while work was done by my son on the distributor cap (replacement).
He removed one bolt and moved a small piece of ductwork located near the accelerator pedal and could reach the small plastic block that the line goes to. He then ran a new tube from the engine compartment to the little plastic block and all is well. Took him all of 10 mins.
Hope this helps someone else.

Resurrecting an old thread...
I just did this same EXACT thing while replacing my distributor cap. 😂
Thanks for all the 10-year-old respondes so I can see what to do and fix mine!
