Default Broken Vacum hose

I have found a vacuum hose on my 1999 Durango 5.9 just hanging. I'm pretty sure that is the culprit for the defroster defaulting.

This is on the main line that draws from the brake booster. I see two that drop from this main trunk, one down on the passenger side that is still connected, and the other on the drivers side close to the booster but just hanging. I can't find where it might have gone through the firewall, or anything else to connect it to.

Thanks

Check the tiny hard vac line that enters the firewall directly under where the heater hoses enter/exit the firewall.

That one seems intact. this one is closest to the brake booster on the other side. It was just laying in the engine compartment so I taped the end up till I can find where it goes.

It's just like the one on the other side, comes off the main trunk from that large Tee and then small hard plastic line. Maybe someone can take a look on their's and see where that one goes. I'm stumped.

Could it possibly go through that soft sponge there on the firewall. it is right where it would come out at the heater controls. I'm thinking that must be where it came from, as on the other side (passenger side) that black thin one goes into a sponge type in the firewall too.

You can see in the picture I posted where it goes into the vacuum port.

Then it goes directly under that into the same (spongy) seal where the heater hoses go in on the drivers middle side. Look at the heater hoses going into the fire wall.

I'll try to take a picture tomorrow.

Thanks for the help. That is where it goes then. That explains why I couldn't find where it went as the spongy material closed on whatever hole it had before. I'll work on getting to the back of the Heater controls on the dash today and see if I can't fix it up.

Thanks for the help and the pic.

Due to illness I am just now trying to get back on this fix.

Do you know if that hose runs straight from the engine compartment, through the sponge material and to the controller?

If so I could just route me another hose from the engine compartment to the controller in the dash. I see a black soft rubber hose on the control back. I just can't seem to find a broken one under the dash, hard for me to get down there or remove the dash. I can remove the dash bezel and get to the controller.

Thanks

I think it does run directly to the controller first.

Thanks for the help. Took it to a mechanic friend who has seen it several times. The hard hose was broken apparently while work was done by my son on the distributor cap (replacement).

He removed one bolt and moved a small piece of ductwork located near the accelerator pedal and could reach the small plastic block that the line goes to. He then ran a new tube from the engine compartment to the little plastic block and all is well. Took him all of 10 mins.

Hope this helps someone else.
