Default What's a good rear end?

The D tow package comes with the 3:92 rear, and it seems to do OK. I'm thinking that a higher ratio would work better with the oversized wheels/tires. I have read posts from those who have gone higher. What other options are there without getting into a drag racing setup? Is there a 4:11? At what point would it be counter productive to go any higher? What is the cost to change including estimated labor?

First of all, a higher number is a lower ratio. 4.56:1 is a lower ratio than 3.92:1.

The change from 3.92:1 to 4.10:1 or 4.11:1 is not enough to justify the cost to me.

If you're going to do it, I would recomend going to 4.56:1.

I went from 3.55:1 to 4.56:1 and it REALLY woke up the vehicle. Funny thing is the MPG is the same as it was in the city but it did drop about 2 on the hwy. The big 5.9 doesn't like to stay at constant higher rpms.

Cost should be about $750 per axle for parts and labor.

Here's a video of mine with the new gears:

I stand corrected. Higher is lower: lower is higher. Duh! I guess the transfer case has to be changed also to accomodate the change in the rear. What is your 70 mph rpm's?

392's will do fine to 33 inch but if you want more then 410's or the 456. You have to replace both front and rear gears to do it.

My Generals measure 31" and the vehicle is programmed for those. I really don't have any complaints, just looking at alternatives. After the major tune up I can now break the rears loose on dry pavement. Quite impressive. Guess I'm not ready to spend $1500+ got get more.
