ok i have an 01 durango. what all do i need to make it tow worthy?

i was thinking better brakes, (you need to stop with what your towing) any recommendations?

trans cooler

i'll let you know when i check the sticker in the glove box that you mentioned,
a trailer with a 87 mustang on it. it should weigh somewhere around 2700lbs
i guess that depends on what i need

 

Defiantly a trans cooler, maybe a radiator flush if you have not done so in awhile. others will chime in with more info.

 

i did a radiator flush last year so that part is taken care of. any recommendations on the trans cooler?

 

B&M Automatic Transmission coolers are very good quality coolers. They make several types, just look at "tow capacity recomendations) and find one you like.

I should add they sell some that come as a direct fit to the Durango including lines and all to use.

 

First off that would not be the correct weight because you have to add the car weight and the trailer weight. Open trailer weight of a 16' trailer is at an average of 1,600 lbs then add the weight of the car at an average of about 3,200 lbs you get 4,800 lbs which is over your max if you have 3:55 gearing but if you have 3:92 then your ok. IF you tow this you need to make sure your weight is with in the law in case you get into a wreck.

I would install a Transgo Shift Kit, and this is one of the transmission coolers I hve installed:

also according to what hydrashocker said my D has 3.55 gears

 

also how will the shift kit help with towing? does it help hold the gears out or something? my local track is about 20 min away but i want a reliable 20 min too and from through out the summers
