Default Diagrams

Hi all,

I have been searching the web to find a solution for my 98 Dodge Durango. I went to Checkers to get the ABS Rear Speed Sensor, but it was the wrong one. I searched and googled for a place to buy and came up on this site: http://www.wholesalemopar.com/. I paid about $27 for the part and $10 s/h (total $37). I think I used a combination of forums to find a solution.

I also scanned the installation document, since I saw a lot of owners asking for a diagram. Thanks for the help!!!

Default ABS and Brake Light Question

I have the same problem mentioned several times on this topic. My 2001 Durango just had the ABS and Brake warning lights illuminate. No speedometer or other problems though. Other members mentioned when testing the speed sensors that the fronts read about 1K ohms and the rear about 2K ohms. I unplugged and tested my three sensors and all of them showed open circuits (measured at the plug). Is it possible all three could have gone bad at once? Could the master unit have caused them all to go bad? Not sure where to go from here so any advice is appreciated.

Default 2002 Durango didn't clear code

I have recently had a few issues with my Durango and am at the point that I hate this thing. It started when the clip broke on the window the passenger side window will no longer go up or down. I recently replaced both front wheel bearings and all 4 tires. My ABS and Brake lights came on about a month ago and I have been reading forums to help self diagnose the problem. This week the MIL light (check engine) came on, but thats now off. I purchased the rear wheel speed sensor and hubby replaced it this afternoon. The lights are still coming on. I asked hubby if he followed all directions and if he disconnected the negative cable on the battery. He said he followed the directions but saw nothing about disconnecting the negative on the battery. Is this possibly why the lights are still on. Any suggestions on how to fix this??

try disconnecting the battery and holding the key to start for 30 sec or so while the battery is disconnected, that drains the electrical system. and resets the computer(and everything else including the radio time and presets)

and it could also be the transmission output speed sensor (its the only sensor on the bottom of the trans) i think it costs about $25 US, and takes about 10 min to change (if that long), or it could be low brake fluid (my dads truck sets off lights when the fluid gets low).

I had this problem same truck as well. I knew my back brakes were bad and replaced them and the light was still on. I then bought a few liters of new brake fluid and flushed each line after I replaced the brakes and this went away. The density of the fluid can be bad too.

Default Durango ABS and Brake light stays on

I have a 99 Dodge Durango 5.2, 75k miles. One day out of the blue the ABS and Brake light stayed on after startup. The speedodometer was flakey as well, but worked most of the time. I did not notice a difference in braking. I looked all over the internet for a solution to the problem and was able to narrow down two different solutions.

My solution was to replace the speed sensor that is located just above the rear differential.

I hope this helps

Most ABS issues are caused by the rear sensor.

DurangoILNG23<------- I think you are diong it incorrectly and no the master cylinder would not do that. Flush your fluid and replace the rear ABS sensor.

I have a 2000 Durango R/T. ABS/brake warning lights came on about a month ago, then went off a day later. This repeated a couple of times, now the warning lights are on all the time. I checked the sensor on the rear differential (per earlier posts) and the resistance is in the correct range. I checked the two front sensors, they're OK too (they're quite new, since I replaced both front wheel bearings in the past couple of years and sensors are included in the kit).

Next is the sensor in the tranny. What's the correct resistance reading for that?

Thanks,

- Roger

Can't find it?......Wonder if it's 5 ohms?

They go hand in hand but sometimes it can also be the module.

My digital multimeter had an untimely accident :-(, so I'm using my inexpensive analog meter, which is less precise. The sensor on the tranny reads about 50-100 ohms.

Earlier posts weren't clear about whether an OBD code reader will display any codes related to ABS, but I'll have AutoZone give it a shot.

I tried the key ON/OFF three times (no starting), but no codes displayed. Should I leave it ON each time long enough to complete the diagnostics, or turn OFF quickly?

Thanks for he help,

- Roger
