Need Help on removing door panels
A friend of mine has a 1998 Durango and she bought new speakers for the rear doors. Problem being, I do not know how to remove the door panels without breaking the door handle piece on the inside. Thus being said I also need to know how to replace the inside door handle as to someone else broke it before me so now the door will not open from the inside. Please help anything will be greatly appreciated. Thank You
There are a series of levers made of thin steel rods on the inside of the handles. Probably one of those came off or the clip that holds it in place popped off/broke. Easy fix.
There is a screw behind the handle. Pull it out and you will see it. There are only 4 screws holding in the rear door. Once they are out, lift up and off. Check out my link to "Locks Squealing - Part Deux" for rear door removal photos in this DF thread:

Do a search in the 1st gen durango forum for speaker install. I have placed a link on the DIY on door removal. It is really easy to do. short summary, The doors have a total of about 6-7 screws, when you lift up on the door panel, you will get access to unclip the plastic retainer holding on to the rods and able to disconnect the electrical harness to the door lock/windows.
It will take you about 30-45 minutes if you are a first timer, but once you got the hang of it, door removal takes about 5 minutes. I replaced all my OEM infinity speakers with aftermarket Infinitys.

Make sure you replace them with 2 ohm speakers. Regular 4 ohm will NOT work.
