Angry Up Dodge Creek...

Hey out there... I have a 2001 Dodge Durango 4.7 SLT 4WD and it's driving me f'ing batty. It's at 96,600 (some odd miles) & I've tried to keep everything up to date on it. However, it seems to be hellbent on making things difficult. The latest ordeal is the ABS & Brake indicators being on. This started today. Prior to that, I had to fix a EVAP problem to please the powers that be at emissions. I'm still trying to make it through the drive cycle phase without getting a ticket. So far, the engine light is still off & I can only pray it stays that way. Just two years ago we sank $2500 into it for transmission work. That was right about tag time too! If anything, this vehicle has wonderful timing financially. I guess other than my rant, the big question is... the brake indicator (light) problem. Fluid is fine & all I've come up with is that it may be the speed sensor. It's approaching the need for brakework, but all is fine (I thought) for now. Thanks in advance to anyone who can give me a more detailed heads up on this matter.

Welcome to the site. I will move this thread over to the first generation Durango section. Hopefully someone there can help you,

1st thing you need to do is ck for codes in the ABS module and post. Yes you could have bad sensor or a controller problem. But you need to pull codes with a scanner. Also ck the master cylinder on low fluid too.

Sounds like the rear speed sensor located on the top of the rear differential.
