The only thing that could go wrong now is if the repairs would exceed the value of the vehicle, which is around $3500 according to KBB. The dealer is starting the repair tomorrow. I can tell you this - having ample insurance coverage is very important. This is my first SF claim in over 20 years. When you need them - you need them.
Sympathy is not in their vocabulary. You get no deductible because you were paying for a $0 deductible in the first place. Trust me, had you had a $100, $250, $500 whatever, that would have been your portion to pay.

With that said, fires are often something that leaves room for issue. An auto policy is not for wear and tear, it is for sudden and accidental. Agreed fire is sudden, but it could ALSO be from wear and tear, thus the 'room for issue'. If they have indicated coverage, good on ya mate!

Well, I didn't tell him that with a fire on such an old truck, they likely will total out his 98 no/low-value SUV did I?

Well, here's what happened. The main wiring haarness fried and melted from the engine down to the rear of the tranny, It got the insulation smoldering. Thankfully, the insulation is fire resistant. The harness came within 1/4" of the fuel line. The dealer is amazed it didn't go up in flames. The adjuster will look at it Monday pm and the insurance company will call me Tues. I've already discussed a 'total' payoff and am comfortable with it. Already targeting a replacement truck - much newer. Even if they go ahead and fix it I'll be trading it in on a replacement. Just to ansy about keeping it now. They have no idea what caused the failure. The harness cost is $1200, replace the PCM is $800, labor will be $1000+. See where this is going?

Well if you get the cash for it pay it off and retain the truck for a rebuild.
