No time or desire to rebuild it. Best guess is a total which is the best for me. I've already replaced it. If they should decide to fix it (fat chance of that) I will either trade it in or sell it outright. Either way it is no longer a part of my life. It always treated me well but this time came too close to getting me and my wife killed on the interstate.

Twists & turns. The adjuster looked at the D and determined that something came up from the road that was very hot and got stuck in the insulation near the tranny. This in turn caught fire and melted the plastic conduit that houses the main electrical harness. So, the harness itself did not short out but the heat distroyed it. So now they are estimating around $1700 to replace it. Once done they will see what the PCM does. If all is OK the D remains mine and fixed. If not, total it. In the meantime, I have already replaced it and will be selling it if it isn't totalled. Talk about something freaky! They told me they have seen this before where a hot brake pad becomes dislodged from another vehicle, hits the road and gets caught up in a following vehicle. They think that is what happened here. Talk about **** happens

Sounds like BS in my opinion! If that was the answer then the material would still be there to look at melted into the spot of impact.

Ford F-150 SuperCrew 4x4 5.4L Lariat model. This has warranties, unlike the D. A little piece of mind. I considered the Ram 1500 Hemi, but my neighbor has one and it's so high tech that it cost him $700 just for a tune up. The 150 has 300 HP and 365 lbs tq, so it will tow anything I currently have or plan to have in the future. Rated at 9900 lbs. I guess I'll have to sign up now for the Ford forum huh?

Well I guess it was your driving skills (unable to avoid road debris) and not the D after all that "about got you and the wife killed" as you say. Never heard of such a thing with the pad. Learn something everyday. What year is the F-150?
