thanks for the responses!

I did switch out the relay and it was not the culprit. I assume it is a dead elecdtric fan. I went to the dealer for the part and they wanted $337. I chatted it up with the girl behind the parts counter adn was able to get her down to $240 for the OEM part vs. going out and trying to find an aftermarket version.

On a seperate note: I did start hearing a loud ROARING noise from the engine area the other area. Sounds as if the engine is working too hard to get going. Not sure what the heck that is... I had the tranny replaced approx 1 year ago and the D is switching gears OK. It seems to stop ROARING after I reach approx 25 - 30 mph.

Ideas on that one?

Regards,
Mark

if the roaring is from a cold start after sitting all night its just the clutch fan catching . . . (this could also be the case if the truck is running too hot) and its something to worry about as long as it goeas away w/in the first mile of driving every morn

I am having this same issue with my 2000 Durango (Elect. fan not coming on). I tried swaping out the fan relay for one of the other relays and the fan still did not come on. I unhooked the power wires and wired 12V directly to the fan and it came right on. I am right that no matter what the condition is, if the A/C is on, the electric fan should come on too, right?

So what else would cause the electric fan to not come on.

BTW, I noticed the electric fan does not come on with the A/C in my 2001 Dakota either.

Thanks in advance for any help.

However... now after hooking up direct 12 volt and then plugging the harness back together, it seems to be working just fine... though I don't know why it is now and wasn't before.

probably a loose connection and unplugging it and plugging it back in was enough to tighten it up

if you follow the wires coming out of the center of the fan (they are tied along one of the electric motor braces) you really cannot miss it.
